I have had a varied week relaxing and catching up with friends, visiting some of the lovely beaches (it is my mission this year to try to visit as many of the islands beautiful beaches as I can). I started with Cala Grassionetta, a tiny but sandy beach just north of San Antonio. This is an interesting one to find as the signs are somewhat sporadic but worth the patience and surprisingly busy. My next beach was Salines, this is on the south of the island and is extremely popular, I must say I am not surprised. This looks like something on a postcard, miles of white sand and water so blue it takes your breath away. There are several renowned bars/restaurants where you will be served high quality food, although not particularly cheap, worth a visit for a holiday treat (but do take some good sun cream, it was 39 degrees). The drive there is an experience in itself as this part of the island is a nature reserve where the salt flats and the sand dunes are protected by law. I never cease to be amazed at the diversity of this tiny island.
As I am sure you can imagine this lack of mid-week clubbing has left me very much in need of some music, so by Saturday I was more than ready for a dose of HKs musical medicine. This week saw Tom De Neef and Wez Clarke at El Divino and both were in high spirits. I watched them do their turn for Kandi vision (which I am told will be online on the Kandi site in a couple of weeks – so keep logging on to see that) and managed not to distract them too much by capturing this for you all. It goes without saying that our boys served up more than a healthy dose of party music, in a set that leaned towards the ‘twisted’ side (just how I like it).
I also caught up with resident musicians Ian C and Lovely Laura. Ian had just returned from a mid-week gig in Egypt at the Port Ghalib festival and recounted his tale of the missing drum kit, having to source percussion in Egypt as his kit did not arrive with him and fearing that it was gone forever would not be able to play for HK until Roland could send him a new one. Luckily for us all it was found on his homeward journey in an underground storage cellar of Cairo airport! Laura alternatively had enjoyed a restful week, and is all fired up for a busy week of Mediterranean gigs ahead, so look out for her at a Spanish Kandi near you.
There my friends I will leave you, weary but smiling, although I should probably have also told you about Space’s 19th birthday party on Sunday…….. X
